Observation Narrative
This looks like a transition zone between high salt marsh ("salt meadow") and Pinus taeda-dominated woodland. The pine forest boundary is 10-15 m away. Axis of plot runs parallel to upland (?) forest boundary. It appears that there were large pines in this area (of plot) that have died off likely due to sea level rise.
Plot located ca. 100 m east of western corner of southernmost salt marshes at Hughlett Point. Center line runs at bearing of 175 deg; a 5 cm dbh pine is on line. Center of plot marked with 1" in diameter PVC pipe.
